In 2022, award-winning property developer Mirvac reached out to Reground to generate data as part of their national resource recovery scheme. Reground conducted holistic data and system analyses across seven sites.

The following steps were undertaken to uncover a holistic view of Mirvac's waste and resource recovery systems:

Internal and external waste flow analyses and
review of waste infrastructure

Consultation of stakeholders at each site to build a strong picture of the systems they used, problems they encountered and opportunities for improvement

Comprehensive weight-based waste audits providing quantitative data and observational insights on the material compositions of each stream

Analysis of waste audit data to identify stream-specific and overall resource recovery rates, key contamination materials, waste behaviours and projected annual waste outputs

Recommendation of solutions for boosting resource recovery and decreasing waste to landfill, specifically through the application of circular solutions.

Findings and recommendations were presented in comprehensive reports which included visual representations of each site’s waste profile and recommendations ranging from easily actionable solutions to long-term circular system change.

By providing a range of tailored, data-driven and actionable recommendations, Reground’s work enabled Mirvac to immediately boost resource recovery across their sites and implement wide-scale and lasting improvements to their waste management practices.
