Chaff collection for conscious coffee roasters

A sustainable way to dispose of an unavoidable by-product of the coffee roasting process.

The dry husk of your coffee bean is far too rich a resource to end up in landfill! We collect your chaff so it can be used in innovative ways or be diverted into compost, adding wonderful nitrogen and carbon to the soil.

How does chaff collection work?

Based on your past chaff volumes, we’ll determine how often you’ll need a visit from us. We’ll provide you with bags that make it easy to store the chaff until we collect it from you. We can accept dry, wet or compressed chaff - all of it is fantastic for the garden.

What happens to the chaff?

All of the chaff that we collect is donated to local community, school or home gardens, where it can nourish compost, enrich the soil and support healthy local food production.

Why don’t we want chaff in landfill?

A circular economy means maximising the use and value of resources. Chaff is a resource that can be used for many purposes like going straight back into the soil as mulch or compost!

Diverting chaff from landfill helps avoid the greenhouse gases it produces as it breaks down from going into our atmosphere. Instead, we prefer to give it a second life.

Why is there a fee?

Businesses pay for waste collection regardless of where it goes, so redirecting funds and resources to the local community isn’t a hard choice.

Reground is a social enterprise – when coffee roasters decide to work with Reground, they know that they’re investing in everyone’s future and supporting a movement that benefits all, not just a select few.

“Reground offered a solution to getting rid of the chaff that is collected from the roasting process...having a consistent home for it and a consistent service is totally awesome.”
